The basics
A daily percent change compares the latest price with a reference price. On TraderChamp the reference is the 09:30 ET opening price, and the final number uses the 16:00 ET close.
That is different from many finance apps, which compare with the previous day’s close. A stock can be up on the day in a news app and still be down from the open.
Why it matters for your picks
A stock that jumps before the market opens has already moved when the contest starts. Only what happens after 09:30 ET counts for your score.
